Frequently Asked Dental Questions – Jersey City, NJ

Ask Your Jersey City Dentist

There is a lot of dental information available online, but how much of it comes from a dentist you can actually visit? Below, you’ll find our team’s responses to some of the most common questions we receive. If there is anything else you’d like to ask, don’t hesitate to give us a call—we’re always happy to talk to you!

Are you currently accepting new patients?

Yes, AV Dental Associates of Jersey City is currently accepting new patients, whether they just need a simple checkup and cleaning or something more complicated like dental implants or a smile makeover. Everyone is welcome here because we’re able to basically do it all under one roof!

How often should I visit the dentist?

At least twice a year, or once every six months. This is often enough that it enables our team to catch most issues before they can become serious, and cleanings at this pace will go a long way in preventing things like cavities and gum disease from developing in the first place.

Should I use a manual or electric toothbrush?

According to research, both types of toothbrushes are effective when it comes to removing cavity-causing plaque. The big thing is that a person needs to use the right technique and brush for at least two minutes twice a day. Electric brushes can make things easier for children and those with mobility issues, but when it comes to your oral health, you can’t go wrong with either one.

Should I brush or floss first?

As long as you’re doing both, it really doesn’t matter whether you brush or floss first. Some research suggests that flossing first leads to more plaque removal, but as long as you’re brushing and flossing the appropriate amount of times per day, you’re in great shape.

Will you accept my dental insurance?

Most likely yes, as we accept almost all PPO plans. We’ll even file your claims for you to ensure you maximize your benefits. To get an estimate as to how you’ll be covered at your upcoming appointment, just give us a call with your policy information nearby.

I don’t have dental insurance. How else can I pay for my care?

We recommend signing up for our AV Dental Discount Plan. It can help you save at every appointment just like regular insurance, but it costs less and doesn’t have things like deductibles, waiting periods, or annual maximums. You can learn more about it here, and if you’d like to sign up, just give us a call.
